The Machine Stops

adapted by Eric Coble from the story by E.M. Forster
Directed by Nathan Pease

Nathan will be directing a staged reading of The Machine Stops presented at Otherworld Theatre
Life on the surface is inhospitable. Humanity has retreated into a vast series of underground apartments honeycombed throughout the Earth where “the machine” provides all means of food, shelter, and communication with others. Vashti is contacted by her son Kuno, who has discovered a terrible secret regarding the ominous machine.

Originally written in 1909, E.M. Forter’s The Machine Stops explores our reliance on technology to connect with other human beings and how it often leaves us feeling increasingly isolated.
